HURRY & SIGN UP WHILE SPOTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE! Building a functional self-bow from carefully selected trees is arguably one the most exciting primitive skills to learn and practice. Participants will start with a “stave” of Carpus Caroliniana or American Hornbeam and slowly remove to ultimately turn it into a functional shooting bow. You will learn about the growth rings or early and late wood and their significance to making different types of traditional long and short bows. Each student will learn to use a shaving horse and different bowyer’s tools such as hatchets, draw knives, rasps, and cabinet scrapers. During the class we’ll discuss different woods that make good bows, different types of bows used by Native Americans and Europeans, bow making tools Bushcraft Archery – jason with arrow picand even how to make your own shaving 
horse from inexpensive materials found at any hardware store. Each student will complete and take home their own bow by the end of Saturday. Sunday will include creating the cordage for and stringing the bow and then fletching arrows.Only 8 spots are available for this class as seasoned staves for the bows are limited and costly as well as the traditional tools needed to craft them. This program is geared towards adults over the age of 18, however, kids 8-18 can attend under the direct supervision of a registered adult also attending.Class runs 9:00 a.m. – 400 p.m. each day with breakfast provided. Please bring a bag lunch.
- $180 per adult for Saturday and Sunday
- $100 per adult for Saturday only – this session was added for folks who could not attend both days. IMPORTANT FOR SATURDAY ONLY ATTENDEES: Please note that you will complete your bow on Saturday, however, cordage and arrow production will occur on Sunday. You will be given cordage at the end of class on Saturday, but will have to learn the process to string a bow on your own.
