Terracycle Committee

This committee manages a recycling initiative to help the Broadlands community reduce waste through a partnership with TerraCycle whose mission is Eliminating the Idea of Waste® by partnering with businesses, government groups, and individuals worldwide to keep trash out of landfills and reduce incineration.

TERRACYCLE PROGRAM

We are excited to announce the launch of a free community recycling program through TerraCycle! This program provides a solution for recycling hard-to-recycle items and aims to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Overconsumption and a throwaway culture have contributed to a global waste crisis. While many complex materials can technically be recycled, most are not cost-effective to recycle. As a result, waste accumulates in landfills, polluting our planet, while new materials are extracted from the earth to create new products.

What can I recycle through this program?

Recycle all brands of oral care
products and packaging.

  • Toothpaste tubes and caps
  • Toothbrushes (non-electric)
  • Toothpaste cartons
  • Toothbrush outer packaging
  • Floss containers

Electric toothbrushes, battery toothbrushes, and/or their parts are not accepted for recycling through the program.

Tide, Gain, Downy, Bounce, NB and
Deft packaging only accepted

  • Flexible packages for fabric care products
  • Detergent rigid plastic tubs and lids
  • Bottles and triggers for laundry products
  • Tide to go pens

Where can I drop off?

The shed for TerraCycle drop-off and collection is located adjacent to the parking lot on the tennis court/right side parking lot. It is situated to the left of the trash enclosure. The shed will be unlocked for the drop-off of various Outreach Programs, and there will be a label on the container designated for TerraCycle.

TerraCycle Program Volunteer Sign-Up
The TerraCycle Committee seeks volunteers to collect and mail recyclable items. This program cannot run without community volunteers, so your help is very important. Please review the guidelines and complete the volunteer form below. Thank you for your assistance with this recycling initiative.

Volunteer Guidelines

  1. Check the storage shed located behind the HOA Administrative Office at 21907 Claiborne Parkway. There are three sheds located on the property.
  2. We suggest wearing gloves for sanitation purposes.
  3. Open the container and place the items from the fabric care and tooth care programs into two separate cardboard boxes as they must be mailed separately. We will try to keep a stock of boxes in the shed, or you can bring your own. You can reuse Amazon or other shipping boxes. Close the container/shed once you have collected the recyclables.
  4. For the tooth care program, the box you use should not be larger than 18x18x18″ and weigh no more than 50 lbs.  UPS will not accept dripping packages, so please make sure your items are dry. Please ship full boxes only to minimize the transportation carbon footprint for this program.
  5. Email Sarah@broadlandshoa.com to request shipping label(s). Be sure to indicate which program(s) you are shipping to. Sarah will request shipping label(s) from TerraCycle and will email it to you.
  6. Print the label(s) and securely attach it to the box(es).
  7. Drop off your box(es), with the shipping label firmly attached, at any UPS drop-off location. There is a UPS store in the Southern Walk shopping center, located at:
43300 Southern Walk Plaza, 116, Ashburn
    Tel: 703-729-2215. Hours: 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
