Street Maintenance

Street ownership, maintenance, & snow removal guidelines

In the Broadlands community, some streets are maintained by the Homeowners Association (HOA), while others are maintained by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). If you have any questions or issues regarding a specific street, please refer to the information below. Click the ownership link to access a comprehensive list of all streets in our community, indicating which entity is responsible for their maintenance. We encourage you to take a moment to review the remainder of this page, which includes contact information, snow removal guidelines, and VDOT resources.

Who Maintains My Street

HOA Streets

Broadlands HOA owns and maintains 85 private streets within the community. Residents living on these private HOA-owned streets pay an additional assessment to fund private road maintenance. Maintenance includes reserves for the future repair and replacements of the asphalt street, concrete sidewalks, and concrete driveway aprons and treatment of the roads during inclement weather events. Our roads and sidewalks are surveyed by a licensed professional engineering firm to assess the pavement condition, and asphalt mill and overlay and concrete work is performed on a rotating schedule every three to five years. Should you identify a maintenance need on an HOA owned street or sidewalk, please submit a maintenance request.

Signs – How to Report Damaged or Missing

Street Name Signs (blue signs/white lettering)

Loudoun County maintains most street name signs in the county, aside from signs on overhead arms at intersections with traffic lights, which are maintained by VDOT.

Report a missing or damaged street name sign:

  • County: submitting a request in Loudoun Express Request (LEx).
  • VDOT: signs on overhead arms at intersections with traffic lights, my.vdot.virginia.gov, or call 703-737-2000 and ask for Maintenance.

Directional & Regulatory Signs

VDOT maintains all STOP, YIELD, SPEED LIMIT, DIAMOND-SHAPED REGULATORY signs and TRAFFIC SIGNALS.

Report a missing or damaged directional/regulatory sign to VDOT: my.vdot.virginia.gov, or call 703-737-2000 and ask for Maintenance.

SNOW REMOVAL REMINDERS

The primary objective of snow services is to make the private streets, trails, and sidewalks reasonably safe and passable.

Snow removal will generally commence after two inches (2โ€) of snow has accumulated on paved surfaces or at the discretion of the Association or contractor.

During and after a storm, streets, trails, and sidewalks may still be snow-covered and/or icy. Snowy and icy conditions can change rapidly due to temperature fluctuations, wind, and lack of sunlight. Use caution when traveling in these areas and proceed at your own risk.

The association will plow or treat asphalt trails along major roadways such as Claiborne Parkway, Truro Parish Drive, Waxpool Road, and Demott Drive. Generally, the association does not plow asphalt trails that are not located along these main roadways.
