Snow Guidelines

With a significant snowfall and potential ice in the forecast, we would like to remind our residents about the snow removal guidelines. Our community has a mix of streets maintained by VDOT, the HOA, or the Developer. The HOA does not plow streets that we do not own. Visit our Street Maintenance page to find out who is responsible for maintaining your street, how to get assistance, snow removal guidelines, and resources from VDOT.

Street Maintenance Page

If you know who maintains your street, you may use the following contacts to report concerns about street conditions:

  • VDOT: NOVA District Office of Transportation – 1-800-367-7623, VDOT Plow Map
  • HOA: Broadlands Association – 240-672-7348
  • DEV: Van Metre – 703-348-5824 – Includes Hillside Park and Demott & Silver Phase 2 Only (streets to left of front entrance).

SNOW REMOVAL REMINDERS

  • The primary objective of snow services is to make the private streets, trails, and sidewalks reasonably safe and passable.
  • Snow removal will generally commence after two inches (2”) of snow has accumulated on paved surfaces or at the discretion of the Association or contractor.
  • During and after a storm, streets, trails, and sidewalks may still be snow-covered and/or icy. Snowy and icy conditions can change rapidly due to temperature fluctuations, wind, and lack of sunlight. Use caution when traveling in these areas and proceed at your own risk.
  • The association will plow or treat asphalt trails along major roadways such as Claiborne Parkway, Truro Parish Drive, Waxpool Road, and Demott Drive. Generally, the association does NOT plow asphalt trails that are not located along these main roadways.
  • Give crews room to clear roads. Park in garages and driveways and avoid driving in storms.
